Welcome! We are a global community dedicated to practicing our motto, “Let Love Lead”. We adhere to the belief that Divine Love connected us with our uniquely special Chow Chow. The ancient wisdom inherent in each of them gives us the opportunity to learn from them ways we can be better people.

The creation of our Chow Chow Tales website is to have a place of our very own, to share stories, experiences and resources that align with our purpose, to inspire better relationships with our Chow Chows, and to support each other in making the world a better place for all creatures who live here.

We extend a special invitation to our Facebook and Instagram followers, and YouTube channel subscribers to join us here.

The Power of Flowers 🌻🌻🌻

🌻I used flowers as part of Shandy’s rehabilitation. Flowers connect us with love. They say, “I come in peace.” So, I brought Shandy a daisy every day she was in the shelter until we finally got her out eleven days later.

🌻I placed a flower in my hand along with a leash and let her smell it to associate the new idea of a leash with pleasure. Her initial reactions had revealed she’d never worn a collar or leash.

🌻Her safe place was in the garage at first, unwilling to come into the house. I placed a vase of flowers by her bed there as she decompressed from the trauma of her previous life.

🌻Once she lived in the house, I set a vase of flowers on her food dish stand to dine with.

🌻On walks, I’d stop and let her smell the flowers. We discovered beauty together.

🌻In all those moments focused on the flowers, her mind was on a bit of pleasure, not concerned about her survival. My intuition and Shandy’s actions lead me to believe she came from a small concrete world.

🌻I worked with a program one summer in high school, taking inner-city kids to Yosemite National Park for weekend camping trips. Most had never even seen a tree before. I learned from that experience to never take for granted the value nature offers for healing.

🌻This video is a glimpse into our healing process using flowers and nature. I helped Shandy by introducing her to the great big wonderful world outside the confines of wherever she grew up. Shandy helped me by requiring me to see the world through her eyes. To accept her just as she was, and consistently provide opportunities for her to expand and mature.

🌻When all our lessons were complete, she left this world to me to continue to practice all that she taught me. Most of all to…..

“Let Love Lead” ~ Joy & Shandy Taylin 💜

Meet Joy Taylin, creator of Chow Chow Tales on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, and owner of The Shandy Shoppe on Etsy, all inspired by a little rescue Chow Chow named Shandy and Joy’s happy Chow-girl, Koa Bear.

Joy got Koa as a puppy and they enjoyed an easy, fun three years together before their lives took an unexpected turn.

Then came Shandy.

A kill shelter. A chance meeting. A fairy tale ending. Joy and Shandy were two parts of one soul who found each other. Together, they faced their fears. Shandy’s special needs presented an opportunity for Joy to gain a profound understanding of the transformative power of unconditional love. With Joy’s persistent commitment combined with Koa’s good nature, they helped Shandy trust again.

Joy combines her spiritual approach to life, love of nature, and her passion for Chow Chows into stories and photography to inspire more meaningful relationships with animals and the world around us.
